Can a $40 Android box handle 8K video and play GTA San Andreas without lagging?
The budget TV box market is flooded with devices, but the new X88 Pro X5M stands out. It features the brand-new Amlogic S905X5M processor, which promises desktop-level speeds for a fraction of the price.
I decided to put it to the ultimate test: Gigabit internet speed tests, 20GB movie files on Kodi, and high-end Android gaming. The results were honestly surprising.
Here is my full review of the X88 Pro X5M.

1. Design & Connectivity: Finally, USB 3.0!
Right out of the box, the X88 Pro looks sleek with its cool LED lighting. But what really matters are the ports. Unlike cheaper models (like the TV98), this one comes with:
USB 3.0 Port: Essential for fast data transfer from hard drives.
Gigabit Ethernet (1000M): A huge upgrade over the standard 100M ports found on cheaper boxes.
Optical Audio & MicroSD Slot.
2. The Speed Test: 600 Mbps?! 🚀
I connected the box to my 5GHz Wi-Fi and ran a speed test. The result? Over 600 Mbps!
This is incredible for a budget device. It means you can stream 4K (or even 8K) content without any buffering. The connection is stable and fast, which is rare in this price range.
3. The "Elementum" 4K Movie Test
A fast internet connection is useless if the processor is slow. I opened Kodi (Elementum) and loaded a massive 20GB+ 4K movie file.
Loading Time: Almost instant.
Scrubbing/Seeking: I skipped forward in the movie, and the video resumed immediately. No spinning circles, no waiting.
The S905X5M processor handles heavy video files effortlessly. The box also stayed cool during the test, unlike older Rockchip models that tend to overheat.
4. Gaming Test: GTA San Andreas & Racing
Can it replace a game console? I paired my Bluetooth controller and launched some heavy titles.
Real Racing 3: The graphics looked sharp, and the frame rate was high. No stuttering even with multiple cars on screen.
GTA San Andreas: This is a heavy open-world game. To my surprise, it ran perfectly smooth. Driving, shooting, and exploring the map felt just like playing on a console.
If you are into retro gaming or Android titles, this box is a beast for the price.
5. The Verdict: Is it Worth $40?
The X88 Pro X5M is hands down one of the best budget TV boxes I have tested in 2026.
✅ PROS:
Super fast S905X5M Processor.
Gigabit Ethernet & Fast Wi-Fi 6.
Excellent performance in Kodi and Gaming.
USB 3.0 support.
❌ CONS:
No Netflix Certification: Like most generic Android boxes, Netflix will play in lower resolution (480p). However, YouTube 4K and downloaded movies work perfectly.
Final Score: 9/10 for value. If you don't care about 4K Netflix but want a powerful machine for everything else, this is the one to get.
