Does your TV Box freeze when navigating menus? Does YouTube take forever to open?
Don't throw it in the trash just yet! Whether you have a budget TV98, a popular X96, or even a decent X88 Pro, factory settings are rarely optimized for speed. Manufacturers often load these boxes with unnecessary animations and background apps that eat up all your RAM.
In this guide, I will show you 5 secret settings that will noticeably speed up your device in just 2 minutes.
1. Turn Off Animations (Developer Options) ⚡
This is the single most effective trick. By reducing or turning off animations, menus will snap open instantly without the sluggish visual effects.
How to do it:
Go to Settings -> Device Preferences -> About.
Find the Build Number.
Click on it 7 times rapidly until you see a message: “You are now a developer!”.
Go back one step and open the new Developer Options menu.
Scroll down to the "Drawing" section and change these three settings from
1xto.5xorAnimation Off:Window animation scale
Transition animation scale
Animator duration scale
The Result: Your box will feel twice as snappy instantly.
2. Limit Background Processes 🛑
If you are using a budget box with only 2GB of RAM (like the TV98 or Mediabox Neo), this step is crucial. Android loves to keep apps open in the background, which slows down whatever you are trying to watch right now.
How to do it:
In the same Developer Options menu, scroll all the way to the bottom (Apps section).
Find Background process limit.
Change it from “Standard limit” to “At most 2 processes”.
The Result: The system will aggressively close unused apps, freeing up RAM for your movies and games.
3. Change DNS Settings (Faster Buffering) 🌐
Do movie posters in Kodi or Netflix take a long time to load? Is your stream buffering? This is often due to your Internet Provider's slow DNS server.
How to do it:
Go to Network & Internet.
Select your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection -> IP Settings.
Switch from DHCP to Static.
In the DNS 1 field, type: 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare).
In the DNS 2 field, type: 1.0.0.1.
The Result: Snappier browsing and faster connection to streaming servers.
4. Remove "Bloatware" (Junk Apps) 🗑️
Chinese TV boxes often come pre-loaded with junk apps: AirScreen, fake Netflix versions, KD Player, Cleaners. These often run in the background and spy on your usage or simply slow you down.
How to do it:
Go to Settings -> Apps -> See all apps.
Go through the list. If you don't use an app – click Uninstall.
If you can't uninstall it (system app), click Disable. This stops it from running in the background.
5. Install "Projectivy Launcher" (Pro Tip) 🏠
The default home screen (Launcher) on cheap boxes is often ugly, filled with ads, and poorly coded. Replace it with the fastest launcher on the market.
How to do it:
Download “Projectivy Launcher” from the Google Play Store.
Set it as your default Home app.
Enable "Accessibility Service" for it to override the stock launcher.
The Result: A clean, ad-free, and super-fast interface that makes a $20 box feel like a $50 box.
