If you are using the Kodi media center with the popular Elementum add-on and trying to sync your watched movies and TV shows with your Trakt.tv account, you have probably run into this annoying pop-up: Trakt Error 403 (or Trakt API 403 Forbidden).
This error constantly pops up in the corner of your screen, interrupts your viewing experience, and stops your watch history from syncing. What does it mean, and more importantly, how do you fix it quickly?

🔒 IMPORTANT: Protect Your Kodi Streaming
Before we fix the error, remember that Elementum uses P2P (torrent) networks to stream. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) can see exactly what you are streaming. Always use a VPN to hide your IP address and avoid throttling or warning letters!

What Does "Error 403" Mean?
In the web world, a 403 error means "Forbidden." This is not a problem with your internet connection or a broken TV box. It simply means that the Elementum add-on is trying to communicate with the Trakt.tv servers, but Trakt is rejecting the request.
Most common causes:
Your Trakt account authorization token has expired or corrupted.
You are using an outdated version of Elementum, and Trakt has blocked its old API calls.
Elementum's internal cache is stuck.
Here are the 3 most effective ways to fix this issue once and for all.
| Trakt error |
Fix 1: Re-authorize Your Trakt Account (The 90% Solution)
In most cases, the session token has simply expired. You just need to disconnect and reconnect your Trakt account inside the add-on.
Step-by-Step:
Open Kodi and go to Add-ons -> Video add-ons.
Find Elementum, then long-press the OK button (or press Menu / C / Right-click) to open the context menu.
Select Settings.
In the top menu tabs, scroll over to Trakt.
Click the Revoke authorization button. This will disconnect your account.
Click OK to save, and then Restart Kodi completely.
Go back to the exact same Elementum Trakt settings menu.
This time, click Authorize.
A pop-up will appear with a PIN code. Go to
trakt.tv/activateon your phone or PC, log in, and enter that code.
The 403 error should disappear immediately once successfully authorized.
Fix 2: Clear Elementum Cache and Database
If revoking and re-authorizing didn't work, your device might be holding onto corrupted old session data. Let's flush it out.
Step-by-Step:
Open the Elementum add-on itself.
Scroll down the main list until you find Settings (these are Elementum's internal settings, not Kodi's).
Go to the Advanced tab.
Click on Clear cache and also click Clear database (if the option is available).
Once cleared, repeat the Trakt authorization steps from Fix 1.
Fix 3: Update the Elementum Add-on
Trakt.tv frequently updates its server security and API rules. If you are running an old version of Elementum, Trakt will simply block your requests and throw the 403 Forbidden error.
Step-by-Step:
From the Kodi home screen, go to Add-ons -> My add-ons -> Video add-ons -> Elementum.
Look at the bottom menu and click the Update button.
Check if there is a newer version available from the official Elementum repository. Always select the highest version number.
If it fails to update, make sure you have the latest repository zip file downloaded directly from the developer's official GitHub, rather than a dead third-party repo.
Bonus Tip: Server Outages
Occasionally, the Trakt.tv platform itself experiences server outages or undergoes maintenance. If you've tried all 3 steps and the error persists, check the official Trakt Twitter (X) account or their status page. You might just need to wait an hour or two for them to fix their servers!
