KANAVI Android 13 TV Box – Is It Worth the Hype? Full Review & Performance Test
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly Android TV box that supports 4K HDR10+ streaming, retro gaming, and voice control, the KANAVI Android 13 Smart TV Box might have caught your attention. But does it really live up to its claims? In this in-depth review, I’ll take you through unboxing, setup, streaming performance, gaming tests, and my final verdict on whether it’s worth buying!
📦 Unboxing & First Impressions
The KANAVI TV box arrived in about two weeks from AliExpress, which is a standard delivery time for budget electronics. I purchased it on sale for just €20 ($22), but the regular price is around €36 ($39).
Inside the box, I found:
✅ KANAVI Android TV Box – compact and lightweight
✅ HDMI Cable – standard quality
✅ Power Adapter – regional plug
✅ Voice Control Remote – feels comfortable, good button layout
✅ User Manual – basic setup instructions
The build quality is decent for a budget device. The TV box has a sleek, matte finish, and the remote feels responsive. However, it lacks premium materials, which is expected at this price range.
🔌 Easy Setup & First Boot
Setting up the KANAVI TV box was straightforward:
1️⃣ Plug in the power adapter and HDMI cable to your TV.
2️⃣ Turn on the device and pair the remote.
3️⃣ Connect to WiFi (supports 2.4G & 5G networks).
4️⃣ Log into your Google account and start installing apps.
The default home screen looks like a standard Android TV interface, but this device is not officially certified by Google, meaning Netflix may not run in Full HD/4K.
Pre-installed apps include:
- Aptoide TV (alternative app store)
- Netflix (but limited resolution)
- YouTube
- MYTV, Magis, TeleLatino, Cetus Play
- Google Play Store (but limited compared to official Android TV)
⚠️ Software Confusion: The box is advertised as running Android 13, but checking the settings and Device Info app showed Android 11. This is a common issue with budget TV boxes, where manufacturers modify system files to show a newer version.
📺 Streaming Performance – Can It Handle 4K?
One of the most important factors for any Android TV box is video streaming quality. I tested this box using YouTube and SmartTube, and here are the results:
✅ YouTube & SmartTube: 4K 2160p @ 60fps runs smoothly with no buffering!
✅ HDRezka App: Movies stream at a maximum of 1080p resolution.
✅ Netflix & Amazon Prime: Limited to 480p (not Widevine L1 certified).
The Mali-G31 GPU handles 4K videos well, but keep in mind that only certain apps will allow full resolution due to DRM restrictions. If you mainly use YouTube, Kodi, or IPTV, you won’t have any issues!
🎮 Gaming & Emulator Performance
Since this box supports Bluetooth 5.0, I connected a wireless game controller and tested retro gaming performance. Here’s how it handled different emulators:
✔️ PS1 (Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout) – Runs perfectly, no lag!
✔️ Sega, PSP, NES, SNES, Dendi, MAME – Great performance, smooth gameplay.
❌ High-end Android games (PUBG, Genshin Impact) – Not recommended due to only 2GB RAM.
For classic retro gaming, this TV box is a great budget option! However, if you’re looking for Android gaming, you’ll need a more powerful device with at least 4GB RAM.
📊 Technical Specs – What’s Inside?
- Processor: ARM Cortex-A53
- GPU: Mali-G31
- RAM & Storage: 2GB RAM / 16GB ROM
- Operating System: Claims Android 13, but more likely Android 11
- Connectivity: Dual-band WiFi 2.4G & 5G, Bluetooth 5.0, USB ports
- Video Output: Supports 4K HDR10+
This box is best for streaming, IPTV, and emulation but not for demanding tasks.
💰 Price & Final Verdict – Is It Worth Buying?
For €20 ($22) on sale, this Android TV box exceeded my expectations! Even at the regular price of €30-€36 ($33-$39), it’s a solid buy for casual streaming and retro gaming.
Pros:
✅ Smooth 4K YouTube & SmartTube playback
✅ Supports IPTV & third-party apps
✅ Great for retro gaming (PS1, PSP, Sega, NES)
✅ Bluetooth 5.0 for controllers & accessories
✅ Budget-friendly price
Cons:
❌ Not Netflix-certified for Full HD/4K streaming
❌ Only 2GB RAM – not great for multitasking
❌ Software reports Android 13, but likely Android 11
💡 My Verdict: If you want an affordable streaming box for YouTube, IPTV, and retro gaming, the KANAVI Android TV Box is a great choice! But if you need official Netflix 4K support or heavy gaming performance, you should invest in a higher-end model.
